All About TreesPlease
TreesPlease is situated in the bottom of the beautiful Tyne Valley at
the southern end of Northumberland between Hexham and Corbridge.
Until the early 1970s the site was a Forestry Commission nursery
producing mainly Sitka Spruce for Kielder Forest. It then had a spell
growing wheat and barley before reverting to its earlier use in 2000
when TreesPlease moved its production business from Ouston,
Co Durham to Corbridge.
The land at Corbridge is predominantly a very fine sandy loam which
is ideal for promoting good top growth. Because we can achieve our
top growth early in the season we are then able to spend several
months ensuring our plants have excellent root systems. To this
end, TreesPlease has developed its unique side air pruning
technique which encourages the plants to produce large quantities
of young feeding fibre which, in turn, allows for a better start following
transplanting. The weather conditions in the valley bottom at Corbridge
alternate from very cold during the winter to very windy during the spring
and summer. TreesPlease trees are raised to be tough.
TreesPlease has been selling trees for about 20 years and now
occupies about 40 hectares and a busy office at Dilston Haugh
Farm. The business has been able to follow market trends and has
progressed from supplying predominantly conifers, through a position
of supplying predominantly broadleaves and woody shrubs, to its
current position of being able to supply practically anything the tree
market requires.
TreesPlease has established excellent working relationships with
nurseries all around mainland Europe as well as the U.K. who are
able to supply us with top quality trees and shrubs to fill in the gaps
in our own product range. This enables the business to be a true
"one-stop shop" supplying landscapers and tree planters alike. In
order to keep carriage costs down, however, it is necessary to give
as much notice as possible for all landscape supplies. Every year,
for example, TreesPlease supplies many hundreds of instant impact
rootballed trees for both screening and architectural purposes as well
as supplying potted shrubs etc for landscaping and municipal projects.
Many of the more common lines are now grown at Dilston along with
the large scale production of bare root plants.
As well as selling solid tubes and spirals TreesPlease can also offer
Europe's biggest selling range of mesh tree guards from Nortene Pro.
The innovative Hedgestart guard, which is designed for one year
hedgeplants, is the only guard that allows the plant to bush out near
ground level. The Planet guard, which has been adapted from a vine
guard used in Bordeaux, is one of the most effective hedging guards
available and can also be used for conifers and broadleaf trees. The
Climatic guard is probably the strongest mesh guard on the market
and offers plants the healthiest possible start in life.
All bare root trees are packed in heavy-gauge, forestry commission
approved, black and white co-extruded bags. We use our own
transport for deliveries around the North of England and South of
Scotland and carriers for most of the rest of the U.K. TreesPlease
takes great trouble to ensure that the plants you receive are as fresh
as possible. Generally, the plants that you receive by mid afternoon
will have been lifted the previous morning and loaded onto either our
own transport or a carrier at about 4.00pm that afternoon.
That's "field-fresh"!!
None of what TreesPlease achieves throughout the year could be
achieved without the dedication of the full time staff. Most of the
outside staff have been with TreesPlease for all their working lives
and have become steeped in the standards of quality to which this
business aspires. The indoor staff have been picked for their
enthusiasm and not for their high intensity sales training (of which
they have none!). Give us a ring and we will spend as long as
necessary discussing your requirements. We are always happy to
welcome TreesPlease customers to Dilston although, because of
the pressures of time, we try to restrict nursery tours to the autumn.
We also enjoy meeting customers at the various shows we attend
during the course of the year and you can find details of where we
will be under the heading "events" on the left hand side of this screen.
We look forward to doing business with you.
