It is a large vigorous native shrub. It has remarkable berries, bright red but translucent and has a good autumn colour. It is a good addition to farm hedges and is excellent game cover. It produces heavily scented, white flowers.
Fruit: The fruit produced is red-black and translucent. It is eaten by birds in the winter.
Timber: This wood can be used to make skewers or arrows.
Soil Types / Habitat: It will grow well in any soil but will thrive in wet or boggy soil. It doesn’t grow well in dense shade or beside the coast.
